Bridges are very many in Venice, the Bridge of Sighs is the most famous. It connects the old prisons to the Doge's Palace, and passes over the Rio de Palazzo. Passing over the bridge, prisoners, often imprisoned for life, sighed admiring for the last time Venice, hence the name of the bridge.

St. Mark's Square is a must when you are visiting Venice. There is St. Mark's Basilica, the campanile of St. Mark and the Doge's Palace. It is located on the Grand Canal, and occasionally may be flooded according to the tides and winds: it is the 'acqua alta', or 'high water'. Must then leave the boots!

The Grand Canal is the canal widest and busiest in Venice. It is borrowed from both gondolas and vaporettis, water taxis.
